New Delhi, February 18

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) will provide free education to children from Hindu and Sikh refugee families from Pakistan.

The students will be given admission in schools which are run by the committee. All eligible students will be able to enrol themselves from the next academic session, that is, from April 2020.

DSGMC president Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, “The children will be admitted in Delhi-based chain of 11 co-educational schools run by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.”

The committee has already written a letter to the Directorate of Education, Delhi government, to grant admission to the refugee children in the DSGMC-run education institutes at the earliest.

“The DSGMC will provide complete education free of cost to the Hindu and Sikh refugee children from Pakistan, in its schools. Meritorious students will be given scholarship and other incentives to prepare them for taking admission in other professional educational institutes,” Sirsa said.

Sirsa hoped that the Delhi government will soon accord permission in this regard and said the DSGMC would explore legal provisions to admit such students on the basis of international laws.

A delegation of such families is expected to meet Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in this regard.
