Geelani’s aides detained for questioning on viral video

Srinagar, February 19

The police have detained two of the aides of ailing Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Geelani for questioning.

The duo were detained during late hours on Tuesday from the Hyderpora residence of the Hurriyat leader, family sources disclosed.

Identifying the two personal aides of Geelani as Siraj and Imtiyaz, one of whom is the leader’s cook, the family sources further disclosed that the authorities were now regulating the access to Geelani’s residence and only an authorised team of government doctors was permitted to examine him.

The J&K Police are probing the uploading of a video clip on the social media, in which ailing Geelani is telling people that he should be buried at the Eidgah graveyard in Srinagar as per his wish.

“The Budgam police had picked up some suspects for questioning about a recent video,” an officer in Kashmir cyber division told The Tribune. The officer said after completing the questioning, they had been “sent back” (to Budgam police). —TNS
