20 open, broken manholes

THERE are more than 20 open or broken manholes on the main busy intersections and roads in Narwana. These pose serious threats to the lives of commuters. Outsiders, who are not familiar with the locations, get hit and damage their vehicles and injure themselves. When contacted, the officers pass the blame on one another’s department like MC or Public Health. The administration must intervene so that repairs can be done as soon as possible. — Rakesh Gupta, Narwana

No one to take care of smart city park

INFRASTRUCTURE built for several crores as part of the civic amenities for residents has either been lying unattended or is in a shambles due to negligence on part of the authorities concerned. A park built on public money in Sector 16 here is an example of how infrastructure could become dilapidated due to lack of care. The park has not only turned into a waste dump, but has also got wild grass and vegetation due to negligence of the HSVP. The park was built several years ago for visitors to the market and commercial centre here. No cleanliness has been taken up for the past year, making it a filthy place. — Rakesh Kashyap, Faridabad

Poor arrangements for elderly at poll booths

INADEQUATE arrangements have been made by the administration for the elderly and physically challenged at the polling booths in Nilokheri block for the Assembly election. The administration has made no arrangement of wheelchairs for the physically challenged due to which they are discouraged to cast their vote and the same was the case with the elderly who had trouble walking. Not only this, the administration at some booths didn’t even allow another person to accompany the elderly and physically challenged to help them exercise their democratic right. Another area where the government and Election Commission must be vigilant is that in villages on voting day, the arrangement of food for the administration in the polling booths is made by sarpanches. And it has been observed that sarpanches, through their henchmen, use this arrangement to lure voters by giving them foodstuff to cast vote in the favour of their favourite candidate. This needs to be stopped and the Election Commission should frame some strict rules in this regard. — Gursharan Singh, Karnal

Will Hisar get water as promised by PM?

THE Water is an emotive issue for all farmers. Promise them water and you are Almighty to them. Politicians, for decades, have been promising them oceans and not providing even a drop of water. All political parties have fooled them time and again. At an election rally in Hisar, PM Modi proclaimed “Main Hisar ke bhaiyon aur behnon ko kehta hoon, aap ke haq ka pani ab Pakistan nahi bahega. Aur Modi yeh karke rahega.” But how will Modi do it? Can he abrogate international water treaties unilaterally? Despite being in power, the BJP could not bring waters from the Sutlej to Haryana despite the Supreme Court’s order to construct the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal. — Col Dabby S Demello, Gurugram
