Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij has said that Dr Jaideep Arya has been appointed as the first chairman of the newly formed Haryana Yoga Parishad. The government will soon appoint 27 outstanding players from the state as coaches.

Vij said that Arya would have an important contribution to the promotion of yoga and in making it part of the lives of people in the state. “For the first time, the Yoga Parishad has been formed in the state.

Arya has been associated with yoga and its associated activities for a long time and has done important work in the field in the state and the country,” he added.

Vij said that the state government had decided to appoint 27 outstanding players from the state as coaches. They would be issued appointment letters soon.

The minister added that according to the revised sports policy 2018, the participants and medal winners of the Commonwealth Games, Rio Paralympics, Special Olympics, Asian Games, Rio Olympics and Asian Paralympic Games have been included in the list.

Vij said that the players to be appointed as coaches include Pooja (para archery), Karam Jyoti (para athletics), gold medal winner Manjit Nandal (judo), Pooja Dhanda, runner-up in wrestling in National Games, gold medal winner Keshav Malik (Special Olympics), Poonam Chopra (bronze medal winner in judo in Asian Games), Manish Kaushik (silver medal winner in boxing in Commonwealth Games), participant of Rio Olympics, Shivani (swimming), Seema (gold medal winner in wrestling in Commonwealth Games), and Rani, Navneet Kaur and Monika (silver medal winners in hockey in Asian Games).

He said that others who would be appointed as coaches are Deepak Sharma, shooting silver medallist in Commonwealth Games, bronze medallists Tek Chand and Nitesh Kumar in para athletics in Asian ParaGames, roller skating gold medallist Arun in Special Olympics, Giriraj, who came eighth in Paralympics, Sudhir — bronze medallist in para Asian Games, Rinku — bronze medal winner in Rio Paralympics, Aarti Kohli, a participant of Olympics in judo, Abhishek Verma — bronze medal winner in Asian Games, ISSF gold medallist Ankur Mittal, wrestler Hardeep who participated in Rio Olympics and gold medal winners Neha, Deepika, Savita and Udita in hockey in Asian Games.

Vij said that the prize money of about Rs 90 crore was being deposited in the bank accounts of about 3,000 national and international players from the state. This process would be completed soon.

The minister added that a function was also planned to be organised in Panchkula on July 24 to honour these outstanding players but during its preparations, it did not appear practical. Thus, instead the prize money was being transferred to their bank accounts.
