Rohtak, June 23
An indefinite dharna started by representatives of khaps and farm organisations at Chhotu Ram Dham in Sampla town here against the Centre’s Agnipath scheme continued for the second day on Thursday.
The protesters raised slogans against the Central government and described it as a “black” scheme, claiming that it was anti-youth and anti-nation. They also decided to strengthen the agitation by ensuring the involvement of residents of nearby villages.
Virender Singh Hooda, a farm leader, said a panchayat of khap and farm representatives held here yesterday took many decisions to carry out the agitation and to register their protest against the scheme.
“The Agnipath is a black scheme. It will not only spoil the future of youths but also pose a threat to national security, hence the panchayat has decided to convince the youths and their families not to fill the form for the scheme as it is unfavourable not only for youths but also for the society,” said Hooda.
Om Prakash Dhankar, Coordinator, Sarva Khap Panchayat, informed the panchayat had also served a 15-day ultimatum on the government to withdraw the scheme. “If the government does not accept the demand, we will boycott it from a monetary point of view by not buying any product worth over Rs 10,000 from any company or corporate houses as these are behind the Agnipath scheme,” he added.
