Rohtak, February 3
Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda today attacked the BJP-JJP government over delayed compensation to farmers and demanded special girdawari to assess the damage caused by hailstorms.
He was addressing a public meeting at the new grain market in Rohtak, organised after the merger of the Bharatiya Kameravarg Party with the Congress Party. Deepender said the farmers across the state had suffered huge losses due to unseasonal rain and hailstorms as mustard and wheat crops had been impacted. He said the government should immediately conduct a special girdawari and announce compensation for the farmers by increasing the compensation amount.
“The BJP-JJP government has not yet given any compensation for the losses incurred in the last several seasons in many districts, due to which the farmers are infuriated. The BJP-JJP government has proved to be a completely anti-farmer government,” he said. “The farmers complain that even though the compensation was given at many places, not everyone got it. There was a lot of loss in girdawari at some places. In this way, the farmers are being hit doubly today. Somewhere it is the arbitrariness of the insurance companies and somewhere it is the weather,” he pointed out.
Deepender said just a light rain yesterday exposed the corruption of the BJP-JJP government. He questioned where the Rs 300 crore spent under the Amrit Yojana on the maintenance of the city’s sewerage system, drinking water supply, drainage and parks go? “A short spell of rain led to a complete collapse of the civic infrastructure in the city. Waterlogging in the city transformed the city into a pond after only half-an-hour of rain. It is very sad to see the condition of all drains, sewers and roads,” he added.
