Karnal, November 1
Infuriated over the non-procurement of PR variety of paddy even after the government order, farmers under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Union protested at the Karnal grain market.
Sunder Singh Kamboj, market committee secretary, assured them that the procurement would start from Saturday, after which the farmers ended the protest.
Yashpal Rana, district president, led the protest and blamed the authorities for not procuring the paddy varieties of the farmers. He said the government had ordered procurement of each and every grain of the paddy, but the farmers were waiting in the various grain markets of the state and there were no buyers.
“We have received the government letter to procure the paddy from farmers who got themselves registered on the ‘Meri Fasal Mera Byora’ portal. The procurement will start from Saturday,” Kamboj added.
