Just 12 per cent of the schools in Nuh district have Internet connectivity, while in Yamunanagar, just 13 per cent have access to Internet. The facts were presented during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha.
There are 15.46 per cent of schools in Mahendragarh that are connected to the Internet while the figure for Palwal is 16.59. Kurukshetra (17.65%), Karnal (18.85 %), Ambala (18.95 %) and Panchkula (19.10%) districts, too, are sailing in the same boat.
The data is sourced from Unified District Information System for Education 2020-21, the year when the Covid started and teaching shifted from physical classes to online. The data reflected the exposure students to the Internet, just prior to the outbreak of Covid. Rohtak has the highest number of schools connected with the web at 37.53 per cent, followed by Jhajjar with 28.36 per cent and Kaithal with 28.1 per cent of such schools.
In comparison, all districts of Punjab have more than 97 per cent of schools with Internet connectivity.
Minister of State for Education Annpurna Devi told the House, in reply to a question on August 1, that BSNL had come forward to provide FTTH (fiber to the home) connections to the government schools, and based on the request of BSNL, an advisory has been issued to the states and UTs to sign an MoU with BSNL to secure FTTH connections for all government schools that have computers.
Punjab excels
