In compliance with the Supreme Court order on stubble burning, Haryana today decided to pay its small and marginal farmers Rs 100 per quintal for non-basmati produce against a commitment that they won’t burn stubble.

After a high-level meeting headed by Chief Secretary Keshni Anand Arora, the state government decided to issue instructions for the disbursement of money to the farmers from Friday itself.

Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Sanjeev Kaushal; Additional Chief Secretary, Finance and Planning, TVSN Prasad; and Chief Minister’s Additional Principal Secretary V Umashankar attended the meeting.

“We have decided to implement the (SC) order with immediate effect. We don’t have any problems in identifying the beneficiaries. Farmers have already given details of the crops grown by them on ‘Meri Fasal, Mera Byora’ portal of the government,” sources said.

On the total liability of the state, sources said though the exact amount could be known only after all beneficiaries were identified, the tentative amount should not be more than Rs 40 crore.
