Unidentified car-borne youths on Wednesday attacked the SUV of Akhil Bharatiya Jat Aarakashan Sangharsh Samiti (ABJASS) chief Yashpal Malik near the State University of Performing and Visual Arts (SUPVA) in Sector 6, HUDA. No one was injured in the attack. Malik too did not lodge any police complaint in this regard.

The incident took place in the evening when Malik was on his way to Jassia village after addressing a news conference at Shiela bypass here. As soon as his SUV reached near the SUPVA, some youths in a car coming from the other side of the road started pelting Malik’s SUV with stones from a close distance. He asked his driver not to stop the SUV sensing the gravity of situation, sources said.

Dharmendra, a local youth, claimed the responsibility of the attack by uploading a live video on his Facebook account. In the video, he warned Malik of not entering Rohtak again to avoid such an action and also blamed him for the death of Jat youths during the quota stir in February 2016. Dharmendra also dared Malik to lodge an FIR against him and said he would not let him organise a rally in Rohtak, the sources said.

“Dharmendra is the man who allegedly clashed with Malik’s close aide Ashok Balhara inside Panchkula courts complex two days ago, where they had gone for a hearing in connection with the violence and arson at local residence of Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu during the quota stir,” the sources stated.

Meanwhile, Malik denied the stone pelting incident and stated that rumours were being spread by his opponents on the behest of Capt Abhimanyu.

Earlier, talking to mediapersons, he charged the BJP government with getting leaders of the ABJASS killed to weaken the ongoing reservation agitation.

“The ABJASS office bearers are being attacked repeatedly on the behest of the state government which wants to divert people’s attention from the demands of reservation for Jats and withdrawal of cases booked against Jat youths during the quota stir,” claimed Malik.

He said they were taking out Deen Bandhu Sandesh Yatra across the state to apprise the people of the BJP government’s intention to trigger communal riots again in the state by vitiating brotherhood and social harmony.
