Karnal village students insist on school upgrade

Concerned over their safety after complaints of “teasing”, students of Taprana village have refused to attend classes at Government Senior Secondary School in Tikri village, which is 3 km away from their village.

The students continued their protest on the third day on Wednesday by conducting classes in a temple of their village. Parents of students were also present in the temple as social workers helped conduct classes on the premises.

On Monday, the students held a protest march in the city from their village and submitted a memorandum to Tehsildar Raj Baksh Arora for Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. On Tuesday, the students refused to go to school in Tikri village and conducted their classes on the road outside the Government Middle School in their village.

After assurance from SDM Indri Sumit Suhag of upgrading the school and security to students while commuting to Tikri village, they got pacified and lifted their blockade. They even gave their consent to attend classes from Wednesday.

“I met the residents and assured them the proposal to upgrade the school has been sent to the higher authorities by the district administration. The decision to upgrade the school is expected within two weeks. I have also directed the SHO to ensure security and safety of the students. I have also asked the sarpanches of both villages to ensure a peaceful atmosphere,” said the SDM.

They again agitated on Wednesday and refused to go to school in adjacent village.
