Karnal: Western Yamuna Canal breached, no damages in nearby areas

Karnal, July 7

Around 100-feet wide breach was witnessed in the Western Yamuna Canal. However, no loss in the nearby areas was reported as the water was flowing into the supplementary canal. Officials of the Irrigation Department were at the Ghoghripur village site to fill the breach.

As per the information, a small breach was observed by residents. They informed the department. A number of labourers were working there to fill it, but it turned wide, due to which water started flowing into the supplementary canal.

“We have pressed in to service two earthmoving machines, four dumpers along with over 100 labourers to repair the breach,” said Sanjay Rahar, SE, Irrigation Department.

“We are also repairing the other side of the canal to give it more strength,” he added. The SE is hopeful that they will repair the canal at night. — TNS
