Panipat, June 6

The police on Tuesday nabbed three persons for their alleged involvement in the fake GST bill scam. The accused were identified as Rajesh Mittal, Inder Pratap Singh and Manish.

The police recovered signed blank cheque books, bogus bills and stamps of various firms from their possession. The police produced them in court and secured 10-day police remand for investigation.

Inspector Deepak Kumar said a team led by ASI Vinod Kumar was on patrol near the grain market gate on Tuesday when they got a tip-off about people involved in the fake bill scam.

The team raided the area near the railway track. Three persons sitting in a car tried to flee, but were nabbed. The team recovered two laptops, three bags, 24 cheque books, six stamps and bogus bills.

The accused had registered fake firms and evaded tax in connivance with owners of other units. Raja Ram Nain, Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner (Sales), said the accused had registered 17 bogus firms. Central goods and service tax teams had started investigation, he added.
