A three-year-old girl was allegedly sexually harassed by a sweeper in the toilet of a private school here on Thursday.

The child complained of severe pain in her private parts and her parents took her to a doctor, after which they approached the police.

The police registered a case under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and nabbed 35-year-old Komal. The victim’s mother approached the school authorities for their alleged negligence.

“When I brought her back from school, she was crying inconsolably, saying she had pain in her private parts. She told us that Komal had taken her to the toilet and exploited her. We called her class teacher and principal and then approached the police,” the victim’s parents said.

Acting on the complaint, the police nabbed the sweeper, who reportedly confessed to having harassed the child. The victim’s parents sought criminal action against the school for allegedly failing to keep their child safe.

“My child’s well-being on the campus is their responsibility. The fact that a sweeper could take a girl to the toilet and exploit her highlights lapses by the school management. We want action against them as well,” they said.

The police were investigating the role of the school authorities. “The accused has been nabbed. We are in touch with the school authorities and probing any lapses on their part that could have led to this,” said Subhash Bokan, police spokesperson.

“A three-member committee is probing alleged negligence by the management. A report will be submitted in a day or two,” said Amit Khatri, Deputy Commissioner.
