Vehicles in Baddi's Harijan Basti were damaged and 12 persons, including two women Rajvinder Kaur and Maya Devi, injured in a clash that erupted late last evening after the announcement of election results.

Trouble began after the BJP candidate was announced winner. Heated arguments ensued between his supporters and those of the Congress candidate. Armed with stones and rods, some of them clashed near Harijan Basti, damaging the vehicles parked there.

Outgoing MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary rushed to the spot. He claimed BJP workers had unleashed violence on those who had not voted for the party, barely hours after their electoral victory. On the other hand, Parminder Singh, the newly elected MLA, blamed the Congress for "resorting to violence."

When contacted, Rahul Nath, SP-Baddi, said 17 vehicles —15 cars and two trucks — had been damaged and cross-FIRs registered by Congress' Bant Singh and BJP's Vikram.
