Dharamsala, May 20

In a biggest single-day spike, the state today reported 18 Covid positive cases, taking the number to 110 in the state and 34 in the Kangra district.

Of the 18 cases, 13 patients belonged to Kangra of which 11 had come from Mumbai, one from Delhi and one from Chennai. One patient was a Kullu district native who also had returned from Mumbai. Four persons were found infected in Mandi.

Kangra worst hit

  • All of them had returned from Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai and were in institutional quarantine
  • The number of positive cases in Kangra reaches 34
  • The infected Kullu youth belonged to Anni and was working in Mumbai
  • The youth was asymptomatic and his condition is stable

All patients of Kullu and Kangra had returned on May 18 and had been in institutional quarantine centres. This is the biggest single-day rise in the cases in Kangra too.

Those tested positive are three of a family — father, mother and child — of Sari Malog village near Dharamsala.

Besides, a man (55) from Chanjehari village in Bhawarna, 21-year-old man from Kohli village in Baijnath, 8-year-old girl from Lambagaon village near Palampur, three members of a family -- mother, son and daughter-in-law -- of Jheol village near Dharamsala, a woman from Lambagaon and 31-year-old youth from Jawalamukhi, are also Covid patients.

A Bajot villager in Jaisinghpur, who had come from Chennai by train, also tested positive. All patients have been shifted to the corona containment centre in Baijnath. The total number of cases in Kangra has risen to 34 of which 24 are active cases.

The 13th person was 55-year-driver of upper Khera village near palampur, who had returned from Delhi. He is in institutional quarantine at Dhaliara.

With more trains to arrive from Mumbai carrying hundreds of Himachalis, the district administration is now desperately looking for places to put them in quarantine. Kangra district is already running short of places to create new institutional quarantine centres.

Anni youth positive

The first Covid positive case was reported from Kullu. Deputy Commissioner Richa Verma said the patient, a 23-year old youth, belonged to Anni. He had come from Mumbai by a special train with nine natives of Kullu on May 18. The youth was asymptomatic and his condition was stable.

The DC said all 10 persons, who had come from Maharashtra, were kept in isolation ward in Kullu Ayurveda Hospital. The youth had not come in direct contact with any other person after reaching Kullu. She said re-sampling of other persons, staying in the Covid Care Centre, would be done.

The DC said 708 samples had been taken from different parts of the district of which 707 samples had been negative.

The DC said the condition of the infected youth was normal and he would be treated under the supervision of nodal officer Dr Vikas Dogra.
