Five youths were killed and four others seriously wounded today when the vehicle (Bolero - HP 46 2322), in which these nine occupants were travelling towards Bharmour, veered off the road and fell 300 metres down on the Chobiya road near Sunku Ki Tapri, the tribal subdivisional headquarters, today in Chamba district.
On receiving the information about the accident, local officials along with a police team, reached the spot. Chamba SP Monika Bhutunguru also inspected the accident site. The report revealed that among the deceased, one youth died on the spot, while four youths succumbed to injuries on the way to the Bharmour Civil Hospital.
The deceased were identified as Jyoti Prakash (20), a resident of Changui village, Luv Kumar (20) of Pulan village, Amit Kumar (22) of Pulan village, Amit (22) of Badgran village and Rahul (22) of Changui village falling in Bharmour tehsil, the report confirmed.
The injured, identified as Karun Sharma (20), a resident of Seri village, Ankush (19) of Seri village, Sunil Kumar (18) of Pulan village and Aman (15) of Pulan village of Bharmour tehsil, were rushed to the Bharmour Civil Hospital with the help of locals, the report said.
Seeing their critical condition, all four were referred to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.
The tehsildar of Bharmour, Gyan Chand, said an immediate relief of Rs 10, 000 each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 5,000 each to the injured had been disbursed.
