Governor Bandaru Dattatreya has advocated the setting up of a cardiac care unit, separate health awareness centre, a blood donation van and an ambulance for specialised services at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital here.

He has also directed the government to fill up two posts of physiotherapists and other vacant positions in the hospital.

On a surprise visit to the hospital yesterday, Dattatreya directed the administration to prepare a detailed project report for construction of a new building in place of the existing old one so that all facilities could be provided to patients. After interacting with patients, staff, doctors and sanitation workers, he also directed officials to install benches in OPDs of the new building of the hospital that was inaugurated two years ago.

He, however, observed that there was no chaos on the premises and patients and their attendants were being attended to properly. He lauded the work of the hospital administration and sanitation staff, who urged the Governor to regularise their services and increase their monthly wages to Rs10,000.

He directed the hospital administration to prepare a detailed report on all necessary facilities required in a hospital, which would be recommended to the government.

The Governor also visited the orthopaedic, child and gynaecology OPDs and took feedback regarding medical services.

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Ravinder Mokta told the Governor that nearly 300 patients were attended to at the department daily and they needed two physiotherapists. Paediatrician Dr Champa Panwar said nearly 150 children were attended to in the department daily and in the gynaecology ward, Dr Mamta said nearly 100 women visited the hospital every day.

Dattatreya also inspected mental health de-addiction adolescent counselling centre, laboratory services and modern equipment in operation theatre.

Shimla Chief Medical Officer Dr Jitendra Chauhan and Senior Medical Superintendent Dr Lokinder Sharma apprised the Governor about the facilities available at the hospital. Dattatreya assured them that he would send the requirement of more services at the hospital to the government.
