Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today said that the Congress should inculcate a tendency to learn.

Factionalism in Congress to the fore

  • Factionalism in the Congress came to the fore during a protest organised during the Chief Minister’s visit to the Indora Assembly constituency in Kangra district Tuesday.
  • Manmohan Katoch, former state chief of the Youth Congress, had announced the protest. However, Katoch was accompanied by a handful of activists and no party leader from Kangra joined the protest.
  • The police did not allow the protesters to move towards the Chief Minister’s venue. They raised slogans against the state government and the police before returning.
  • Katoch, while talking to mediapersons later, said that he organised the protest as development projects announced by the Chief Minister for the Indora region during his last visit had not been implemented.

Thakur, while addressing a well-attended public meeting at Indora in Kangra district, said the previous Congress government had made only hollow announcements in the election year.

He inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 13 development schemes worth Rs 161 crore. He said the pace of development would accelerate in the constituency after the completion of these projects.

Thakur said that his government had reduced the age limit for availing of social security pension without the income criteria from 80 years to 70 years and now to 60 years in the last Budget.

On the demand of local MLA Reeta Dhiman, the Chief Minister announced the opening of a fire sub-station at Indora, ?a PHC at Sugh Bhatoli, upgrade of the PHC at Badukhar to a community health centre (CHC), opening of ayurvedic dispensaries at Saniyal and Surajpur, upgrade of Government Primary School, Badukhar, to Government Middle School, upgrade of Government Middle School, Rajakhasa, to Government High School, and of Government High Schools at Gagwal and Sahauda to Government Senior Secondary Schools.

He also announced the starting of two new trades in the Government ITI at Gangath, upgrade of the veterinary hospital, Indora, to a Polyclinic and upgrade of the veterinary dispensary, Kandrori, to a veterinary hospital. Kangra MP Kishan Kapoor and local MLA also addressed the public meeting.

Manmohan Katoch, former state chief of Youth Congress, organised a protest but no leader from Kangra district took part in it.

Asked why no leader supported Katoch’s protest, Ajay Mahajan, district Congress president, said that there were no differences in the party. The protest in Indora was organised at the block level, so district-level leaders did not participate in it.
