CM releases book on Himachal  history


Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Thursday released a book titled ‘History of Himachal Pradesh’ written by a retired IAS officer, KR Bharti. The book has been published by the Himachal Academy of Arts, Culture and Language. Appreciating the efforts of the author, the Chief Minister said the study of history was important as it allowed the reader to understand our past and thus helps to understand our present in a better way. He said the reconstruction of past was not an easy task thus the efforts of the author were indeed laudable. He said KR Bharti had shown a great deal of diligence to write this voluminous work that covers all periods of history of the state. He expressed hope that the book would be useful to both students as well as researchers. He also released two books written by Sudarshan Vashisht and Bharti Kuthiala.

Teachers on strike, students suffer

Students of the School of Physiotherapy at Bahra University are at the receiving end as teachers have refused to take classes till their salaries are paid. In a letter to MLA Vikramaditya Singh, students alleged that due to some issue between the management and the teachers, the teachers are not getting salaries and as a result, they have refused to take classes. They said the situation has become so critical that their examinations scheduled from March 9 have been postponed.

Chanakya takes over school

In order to provide good education and train students for competitive examinations, the Chanakya education academy has taken over Rajendra Lotus Public School. The school has been renamed Indus Valley School. It will provide free coaching for engineering and medical exams to students of the school. Navneet Sharma, Director of the academy, said the academy would try to avoid practice of dummy admissions in the schools. The students would be prepared for JEEE, NEET and NDA tests, he added.

Students visit Vidhan Sabha

Students of Auckland House School for Boys on Thursday visited the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha to see the proceedings of the house. The students got first-hand information about the functioning of the Assembly and saw how elected representatives raise issues of public concern. They were told about the importance of the question hour.

SFI begins protest campaign

A group of students of the RKMV, affiliated with the SFI, on Thursday started a campaign against the alleged anti-education policies of the state government. They said they would visit various colleges in the district -- including Sunni College, Karsog College, Rampur College, Seema College, Rohru, Theog College, Dhami College, Kotshere College in Shimla and would gherao the Vidhan Sabha on March 25, said SFI district president Anil Thakur. SFI activists accused the state government of commercialisation of education.
