Implement UGC scales: HPUTA

The HP University Teachers’ Association (HPUTA) submitted a memorandum through HPU VC to the state government, wherein it was stated that Punjab had implemented the latest pay commission recommendation for all state government employees. It was noted that Punjab’s pay commission had recommended over two-fold jump in salaries of all state government employees, and an increase in minimum pay from Rs 6,950 to Rs 18,000 per month, with retrospective effect from January 1, 2016. The average increment in salaries and pensions of employees was expected in the range of 20 per cent, with salaries in for a 2.59 times increase over the previous pay commission recommendations. However, this was less than the actual UGC scales, leading to resentment among teachers. The HP Government was delaying its implementation. The HPUTA demanded that the state should announce the UGC scales.
