Change Dalhousie’s name

Some law students from HPU University have urged Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to change the name of Dalhousie in Chamba to Netaji Subhas Nagar. The students feel that retaining the name of the town named after Lord Dalhousie, the Governor General of India, was a sign of mental slavery. Besides, they said it was an insult to the freedom fighters. The students said Dalhousie's cruelty against Indians was well documented.

Open library for research scholars

The SFI on Tuesday demanded that HPU be opened up for research scholars. The SFI said the government had allowed coaching centres to function with 50 per cent attendance but the university had not been opened for research scholars yet. The students' body said research scholars should be given access to library and hostels at the earliest.
