Prepare chargesheet, face CBI probe, Himachal CM warns Congress

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today warned the Congress that if it persists in preparing a chargesheet against the government, he would not hesitate to get charges against its leaders investigated by the CBI or the Vigilance Bureau, besides getting FIRs registered against them.

“It has been my endeavour from Day one in the government to end the culture of vendetta politics. I have kept my word for the past four-and-a-half years but seeing the behaviour of some Congress leaders, I will be compelled to order a probe by the Vigilance Bureau or the CBI into charges against them,” hinted Thakur here. He was reacting to reports that the Congress was preparing a chargesheet against the state government for its alleged acts of omission and commission.

He said, “If my party tells me to go ahead, I will get the charges against some Congress leaders investigated by state agencies or the CBI. I have not only talked about ending vendetta politics but have also done it in letter and in spirit.”

However, with barely four months left for the Vidhan Sabha elections, the political discourse is getting vitriolic with each passing day. The Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri have been criticising each other in the Assembly and outside.

Rajesh Dharmani, former Ghumarwin MLA of the Congress, is the chairman of the Chargesheet Committee while MLA Inder Dutt Lakhanpal and Vinod Sultanpuri are its members. Dharmani had said recently that the committee had collected facts and evidence, especially regarding rampant corruption, from various districts and a chargesheet against the government would be ready by July 20.

In the past, cases were registered by the Vigilance Bureau against political opponents during governments headed by Virbhadra Singh and Prem Kumar Dhumla based on the chargesheets prepared by their parties.
