Remission for 459 convicts on I-Day

SHIMLA: At least 459 convicts will be given remission ranging from 15 days to three months while eight prisoners will be freed, four each from Model Central Jails at Nahan and Kanda, on Independence Day.

At least 459 convicts will be given remission ranging from 15 days to three months while eight prisoners will be freed, four each from Model Central Jails at Nahan and Kanda, on Independence Day.

A proposal for remission to the convicts who had maintained exemplary conduct was sent to the state government in the first week of August, said DGP, Prisons and Correctional Services, Somesh Goyal.

He adding that those undergoing sentence for one year would get remission for 15 days while those undergoing life imprisonment would benefit by three months.

Life convicts who would be released are Chander Mohan, Ranjeet Singh, Ram Dass, Sarwan Kumar, Surjit Singh, Prem Singh and Hans Raj , all lodged in Open Air Jail, Bilaspur; Mohan Singh and Krishan Kumar lodged in the Mandi jail. — TNS
