The second edition of the three-day Shimla Dance Festival, being organised by the Language, Art and Culture Department, would begin from tomorrow (March 18).

Performance of renowned Odissi exponent Sujata Mohapatra, recipient of the 2017 Sangeet Natak Akademi award, would be the highlight on the first day. Prior to her, Pawan from Shimla will perform Kathak.

On March 19, a performance by Bharatanatyam dancer Jai Quehaeni from Chennai would enthral the audience. The local artist for the second evening would be Odissi dancer Minketan Sahu from Solan.

The third day, March 20, will start with a Kathak performance by Kumari Yashika from Himachal Pradesh. The main attraction would be presentation of Kathakali by Guru Kalamandalam Ramachandra Unnithan from Kerala. He would be playing the role of Lord Hanuman in an episode from the Mahabharata, for which he has won many accolades.

“The artists have consented to interact with students in the morning on the day prior to the concerts at the Gaiety Theatre,” said a spokesperson of the Language, Art and Culture Department.
