Stone laid for ~69-crore water scheme for Shimla

SHIMLA: Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today laid the foundation stone of Rs 69-crore Shimla lift water supply scheme at Chaba in Sunni area that will provide additional 10 MLD of water, ensuring a regular water supply to people of the capital city by April, 2019.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today laid the foundation stone of Rs 69-crore Shimla lift water supply scheme at Chaba in Sunni area that will provide additional 10 MLD of water, ensuring a regular water supply to people of the capital city by April, 2019.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion at Sunni in the district, the Chief Minister said the water supply scheme would be completed by the April next year that would solve water problem of Shimla. The government was spending Rs 275 crore on drinking water schemes in the state this year, he added.

He said that the Centre had approved the Rs-4,751 crore water harvesting project that aims at doubling farm income by 2022.

He said that Sunni -Tattapani area had immense potential from water sports and efforts were on to make the Suni-Tattapani-Karsog-Jhanjheli-Shikari Mata as tourist circuit. The work on Sunni bus stand would be completed soon.

The Chief Minister said he had visited 62 Assembly constituencies of the state to get first-hand knowledge of problems people face and ensuring that these problems are addressed. The government was working without vengeance or vendetta, he said referring to the presence of the local Congress MLA Vikrmaditya on the stage.

The Chief Minister urged public to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he had soft corner for Himachal. He announced Rs 10 lakh each for the Gaudu-Palghar road and the Ghaini-Tabog road. He also announced Rs 23 lakh for different link roads of the area. He announced an office of Block Medial Officer at Sunni adding that SDM Rural Shimla would sit for two days in a week at Sunni.

Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj praised Jai Ram Thakur saying that about 2,375 teachers had been recruited during the past about one year. He also urged Thakur to develop Sunni as a major water sports destination of the country.

Congress MLA Shimla Rural Vikramaditya Singh urged Chief Minister to strengthen health infrastructure in the area adding that he hoped the area would get due consideration in the matter of development.
