Vajpayee’s statue to be installed by Dec 25: CM Himachal

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today inspected various sites around The Ridge for the installation of the statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He said a suitable place would be finalised so that it could be unveiled on December 25, the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister.

Sources said the Chief Minister had been upset over the delay in the site finalisation.

Earlier, a site near Ashiana, the HP Tourism restaurant, had been finalised, but work could not progress as there were big cracks due to the sinking of The Ridge.

Since experts from the IIT-Rorkee had visited the site and their report was being awaited, there could be no progress in the work on the statue installation.

Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj, Mayor Satya Kaundal, Principal Secretary JC Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kashyap, Engineer-in-Chief, PWD, Bhawan Sharma and Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Shimla Pankaj Rai were present.
