Students should come forward to eradicate the drug menace from society. Besides academic studies, they should also work for the progress of society and the nation.

Bikram Thakur, Industries and Technical Education Minister, said this at the annual day function of Vishest Bharti School at Sansarpur Terrace in the district today. He asked students to be the ambassadors for the drug abuse eradication programme launched by the government.

The minister announced Rs 21,000 for the students who presented cultural items. He also gave away Rs 11,000 and mementos to 10 meritorious students of Class X.

He said that a smart classroom would be constructed in the school. He asked the school management to organise programmes on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. The students and the teachers should jointly participate in the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan and environment preservation campaigns, he added.

The minister said that with the opening of a Polytechnic College, Pharmacy College, Adarsh ITI and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sansarpur Terrace would become an educational hub. He added that imparting quality education was the priority of the government. He asked the students to set a goal for their lives and desist from falling to drug abuse.

Karan Singh, principal of the school, read out the annual report. Later, the minister heard the grievances of people and disposed of most of them.
