Operations were conducted to track down illegal immigrants and to put a stop to prostitution that was being facilitated by some local individuals in cooperation with foreigners, said Acting Head of Crime Investigation Command Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Nafiz.

The Maldives has over one lakh foreign residents and grapples with a significant number of illegal immigrants. Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusan said at a press briefing on Tuesday that the ministry was working together with the Economic Ministry to act against illegal businesses operating under various names.
