Srinagar, January 27

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said it had busted a terror module involved in the smuggling of arms and ammunition.

“Acting on credible information from our own sources and corroborated by other sister agencies and counterparts, the Kupwara police, along with 9 PARA Field Regiment, has busted a terror module involved in smuggling of various arms and ammunition sent by two PoK-based LeT terrorist handlers, namely Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh and Qazi Mohammad Khushal, both at present operating from across the border,” the police said.

Zahoor Ahmad Bhat of Rear Sudhpora Karnah was arrested in the case and one AK rifle, two magazines, three rounds, four pistols and five pistol magazines were recovered from him.

The police said a preliminary investigation revealed that in the recent past, the two handlers from across the border were in touch with Bhat, who hails from a village that is located close to the LoC.

“The consignments dispatched to this side from across the border were being delivered to other terror associates who were in contact with Bhat and the said handlers,” the police said.

Based on further leads, the police said, four more terror associates, namely Khursheed Ahmad Rather, Mudassir Shafiq Gabra, Ghulam Sarwar Rather and Qazi Fazal Illahi of Gabra, Karnah, have also been arrested. Arms and ammunition and other incriminating material were recovered from them, including five AK rifles, five AK magazines and 16 rounds.

“The case is being investigated expeditiously in a comprehensive manner to further unearth the conspiracy regarding the smuggling of arms and ammunition and proscribed material/contraband,” the police said.
