Jalandhar, August 4
An elusive shot of a snow leopard clicked by city-based nature and wildlife photographer Sanjeet Mangat featured as a cover picture of the August edition of Sanctuary Asia, nature and wildlife magazine. Mangat left his medical profession to pursue his passion for photography. In 2019, his image of ‘a snow leopard trying to hunt ibex goat’ featured as a cover shot on the August edition of Sanctuary Asia.
Speaking to Jalandhar Tribune, Mangat said he is the first photographer from Jalandhar, whose work featured on the cover page of a magazine twice. He said the achievement had further motivated him to capture such elusive shots.
“Getting images of a snow leopard, which is known as the Ghost of the Himalayas, is not an easy task. I have to click a photograph by being at a height of 12,000 feet and in harsh winter of minus 10 to minus 25 degrees Celsius temperature,” he said adding that he spends February and March of every winter in these conditions trying to get images of this amazing animal.
He further said this image, which appeared as a cover shot, was taken at Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary of Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh. Besides, he said he had waited for several days and hours in harsh climatic conditions to take this rare shot.
