Following a consistent delay in the provision of ration for the mid-day meal in various schools of the district, Punjab State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited has issued a warning to the local supplier.

The district PUNSUP manager has released a letter to the contractor for the Goraya 1 and 2 and Phillaur blocks, to provide the mid-day meal ration at the earliest. The manager has issued a warning that in case of failure in providing the ration at the earliest, the contractor would be blacklisted.

While The Tribune had highlighted the delay in providing ration for the mid-day meal to about 50 schools in the Phillaur block, which were on the brink of suspending the facility, 12 schools of the block and many in the Goraya 1 and 2 blocks are also yet to receive the ration for the current month.

The PUNSUP manager, in his letter to the contractor, has stated that while the mid-day meal in the Goraya 1 and Goraya 2 as well as Phillaur blocks had been considerably delayed, the disbursal be ensured at the earliest.

The letter further stated that if the same was not done as per the tender/agreement conditions, action would be initiated against the contractor and he would be blacklisted.

District Manager, PUNSUP Jalandhar, Janak Raj, said: “We were getting persistent complaints from the blocks of the delay following which the warning has been issued. While about 12 schools in Phillaur and all schools barring about 40 at the Goraya block await partial rations for the month, we expect the same to be cleared by Tuesday. The field officer, PUNSUP, has also been instructed regarding the same. Any delay in the same will result in departmental action.”
