Ghana citizen among two arrested for drug peddling

JALANDHAR: The local police arrested two persons, including a Ghana citizen, on the charge of drug peddling on Friday.

The local police arrested two persons, including a Ghana citizen, on the charge of drug peddling on Friday.

The accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Mana village in Hoshiarpur district, and Joshua Amangwan, alias Smith, from Ghana.

Sukhwinder was arrested with 100 gm of heroin, .315 bore pistol and five live cartridges while Joshua was nabbed from Delhi for allegedly selling drugs.

The police also recovered 500 gm of heroin, which was concealed by Joshua under a tree on the Karnal bypass in Delhi.

Addressing mediapersons, Navjot Singh Mahal, SSP, Jalandhar (Rural), said Sukhwinder was arrested during a checking at a naka near Padhiana village in Adampur.

A case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act has been registered against Sukhwinder at the Adampur police station.

A total of five cases under the NDPS Act and Arms Act are already registered against him at various police stations in Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar.

During a preliminary investigation, Sukhwinder told the police that he used to buy heroin from Joshua Amangwan in Delhi and sell it to his customers at high prices.

Joshua Amangwan was arrested from Uttam Nagar in Delhi and was produced in a local court, which sent him to two-day police remand.
