Jalandhar: Based on a consensus-based mechanism to allocate oxygen supplies among healthcare institutions in the district, the quota of oxygen cylinders for private hospitals in Jalandhar was increased which has come as a huge relief. From the previous allocation of 1,997 cylinders to hospitals, it has now been revised to 2,385. As many as 388 more cylinders shall now be disbursed among hospitals. Notably, 60 private hospitals and two public healthcare facilities (civil hospital and military hospital) began tackling Covid with allocation of 1,884 oxygen cylinders per day, which was increased to 1,997 and now to 2,385 – in view of the rising Covid cases. While two Jalandhar plants generate 2,200 to 2,400 cylinders per day, additional oxygen is being transported from Panipat or plants in other districts – on one occasion even from Bokaro. DC Ghanshyam Thori said, “We expect these 388 cylinders will address the current crunch the hospitals were reporting.” TNS
