Government Primary School situated at Kang village in Nawanshahr district has emerged as a beacon for other schools in the state. During the current academic session, as many as 11 students from private schools situated at nearby towns of Nawanshahr and Rahon have shifted to this school. At present, 45 students are studying in the school.

Younus Khokher and Daljit Kaur, government school teachers, have also preferred the government school at Kang, instead of private schools, to provide quality education to their children. During a visit a few months ago, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar had also lauded the gesture of the government school teachers for getting their wards admitted to the school as well as the dedicated efforts being put in by school in-charge Kavita Sabharwal for shaping the future of tiny tots.

Enumerating distinctive achievements, Kavita said the results of the school under the Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab project remained 96.52 per cent during the 2017-18 session and the school was selected among the best schools of the district and got an opportunity to participate at the state-level meeting-cum-workshop held in Mohali.

“The students of the school have been excelling in academic, sports and co-curricular activities at the district and state level. It has also been selected among the first five schools of the total 424 for bringing out manually prepared school magazine in the district. The school students got the first prize in a one-act play during the district-level celebrations dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Punjabi Suba. Students Harleen Kaur got the first prize in skipping. Reena, Diksha, Sukhpreet, Balika have got top positions in educational and cultural competitions. They also bagged the first prize in English listening, second in English speaking, third in multiplication, and calligraphy at district-level competitions under the Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab project,” Kavita said.

Facilities offered

Government Primary School, Kang, is equipped with a smart classroom, a well-maintained library having 450 books, a mid-day meal dining hall, soap and towels for washing hands, a sound system, an electric water cooler, a refrigerator, an inverter, a submersible pump and an RO system for safe drinking water and above all, a tastefully decorated building.
