Kapurthala: MLA Rana Gurjit Singh on Friday today reviewed ongoing works related to renovation of ponds. The constituency was selected by the state government for using pond water for irrigation purposes for which a special grant of Rs 7.37 crore was released. The MLA visited the ongoing works at Madhojhanda village (cost of Rs 21.56 lakh), Badial (cost Rs 16.51 lakh), Sundarwal (Rs 23.18 lakh), Nurpur Dona (Rs 23.38 lakh) and Phulewal village (cost of Rs 18 lakh). During his visit, he appealed villagers to act as watchdogs for timely completion of pond related works. He said will be developed under the Thapar Model and water will be used for irrigation. In addition, relining of ponds will give a boost to fish farming. Proper use of pond water will not only prevent contamination of groundwater, but will also help in preventing spread of diseases due to contamination, he said. TNS

Jalandhar: Delegates from the Ministry of Defence, Punjab Government and National Defence College, visited Centre of Excellence for Vegetables at Kartarpur for socio-political tour. Dr Daljit Singh, project officer, Centre of Excellence for Vegetables, informed delegates of various activities going on in the centre. The delegates appreciated various exotic vegetables and asked questions regarding the same. TNS
