Rs 4.20 Lakh penalty for power theft

Jalandhar: In a joint operation by the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) at the Indira Puram Society near Verka Milk Plant, a penalty of Rs 4.20 lakh has been imposed on power thieves. PSPCL officials said the raid was conducted under the supervision of West Division PSPCL, Jalandhar, by the Distribution Department. While nine cases of direct theft were detected by the PSPCL team, it was found that 12 kW of power was reportedly being used illegally. Apart from giving warning, the power thieves were asked to pay the penalty in order to avoid any connection cut. All illegal connections were detected to be kundi connections. The officials stated that more such raids would be organised in the coming days and a strict action would be taken against the accused. TNS
