Rs 48-lakh robbery case cracked, two arrested

JALANDHAR: While tracing a crime incident of August 6 in which Rs 48 lakh was looted from a city resident, the city Police Commissionerate today arrested two suspects and recovered Rs 31 lakh from them.

While tracing a crime incident of August 6 in which Rs 48 lakh was looted from a city resident, the city Police Commissionerate today arrested two suspects and recovered Rs 31 lakh from them. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said on the complaint of an NRI, Jaswant Singh, the CIA Staff-1 solved the robbery case within 24 hours of filing the complaint.

“Jaswant Singh, who resides in Philippines, told the police that on August 6, three unidentified miscreants had looted Rs 48 lakh from his son Gurdeep Singh after attacking him with sharp weapons. He had send him to a property dealer for the purchase of a property. However, when the deal was failed, Gurdeep was returning home with the money on his motorcycle.

Meanwhile, three unidentified persons hit his motorcycle with their Activa scooter near Rose Park, Gulab Devi road. The suspects after attacking him, fled the spot with the bag containing the money”, Bhullar said.

Following the complaint of the victim, that was registered on August 19, the CIA Staff-1 took swift action to nab the suspects. Eventually, after verifying the number plate of the Activa scooter, that was spotted in the nearby CCTV cameras, the police arrested the duo from their houses today. However, the third accused could not be traced.

The arrested suspects were identified as Amit Kumar of Jail Chowk and Amandeep Singh, a resident of Mangat Singh Colony. While Rs 17 lakh were recovered from Amit, Rs 14 lakh were seized from Amandeep. The scooter used in the crime (bearing registration No. PB08 EF 9357) was also seized by the police and a search operation was on to arrest the third suspect.
