Jalandhar: Following a continuous strike for over three days by the staff of the Municipal Corporation against the delay in payment of their salaries, the Punjab Local Bodies Department released Rs 13 crore on Tuesday.

While confirming this, Mayor Jagdish Raja said the money had been released and salaries would be credited to the employees’ account by Wednesday.

Also, he said the civic body would make efforts to boost its own revenue sources so as to release the salaries on time.

“I have asked various departments to pull their socks up and recover pending arrears. They have also told to devise new revenue sources within the existing framework. Hope, things will get better by the next month,” said Raja.

Following the three-day strike, the public faced a lot of harassment in paying their public utility bills.
