JALANDHAR:A series of new projects, including a 5-D theatre, mathematics gallery and a Women Technology Park are likely to be set-up at Pushpa Gujral Science City next year.

A series of new projects, including a 5-D theatre, mathematics gallery and a Women Technology Park are likely to be set-up at Pushpa Gujral Science City next year. 

A spokesperson of the science said: “The objective of Women Technology Park is to motivate women to be an entrepreneur and make them self-reliant”. 

“Under the skill development mission, three short-term courses including domestic electric instrument repair; electronics and arc gas welding, will be started soon. The courses will be provided free of cost to Kapurthala domicile-holders to enable youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood,” he added.

He said:“A project proposal related to setting- up of mathematics gallery has been submitted to the Government of India.”

“This is to be considered as first Mathematic Gallery in the region. The objective is to present mathematics in an easy way to understand,” he added.

Around 1.32 lakh students of government schools from all over the state and 15,000 students from Chandigarh visited the science city. Besides, 1,000 students of government schools of Haryana School Education Department had visited the science city. Nearly, 44 lakh visitors have visited the Science City ever since it opened on March 20, 2005, Dr Neelima Jerath, Director General, Science City, said it at a press release. 

She said, “Robotic Dinosaur gallery has been set-up and moving Dinosaur have been a star attraction. Five scientific informative kiosks, based on metallurgy, gemology, geology, numismatic and soil science too have been set up this year. These exhibits make students and public aware about various types of metals and alloys, physical properties of different gems, various types of rocks and minerals, different kinds of coins of pre and post-independence period, as well as various types of soils prevailing in the country.” she added.

“I-MAX film Everest has been re-launched in the space theatre on the demand of visitors. The film depicts the beauty of Himalayas and describes the challenges faced by mountaineers,” she added.

She said: “Mobile Science Exhibition bus is being run to every nook and corner of the state, in order to bring science at their door steps. As many as 50,000  students got an opportunity to see the Mini Science Gallery. Subsequently, 50 Genetic Literacy clubs have been set-up under the Genetic Literacy Programme,” she said.

Talking about the Innovation Hub, the Director General said: “The project is achieving its objective to develop culture of innovation and creativity amongst students by engaging young minds in various scientific activities.”

“Under the programme, a total of 30 workshops in various fields of science and technology were organised and around 500 students have been enrolled as members of Innovation Hub,” she added.
