Jalandhar, October 20

The Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS) volunteers from Kapurthala and Jalandhar have accused the Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh’s wife Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who was the chief guest at the event, for the Dasehra tragedy on Friday evening.

Lashing out at Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, an elementary school teacher Nishant Kumar said, “I went to donate blood as I got to know the blood banks are running short of samples due to urgent need and also visited the spot around 11 pm to learn about my acquaintances living near by Joda Phatak”. He said the situation was heart-wrenching.

The bodies were lying unattended by authorities, while the family members were running from pillar to post to find cloth to cover bodies of the deceased.”

He said as per an eye witness at the spot, people blamed Dr Sidhu of being late to inaugurate the event.

Meanwhile, expressing deep condolences to the families of the deceased, members of the teachers’ union represented by Aaradhna, Harvinder Singh and Rajesh Mengi said, “The tragedy is really unfortunate. Many have lost the only earning member of the family. Many children, young and elderly had also died. We pray to God to give strength to the families to bear the pain.— TNS
