A youth has been accused of attempting to rape a 11-year-old girl at Talwandi Bharo village near Uggi.

The girl’s father, who is a migrant labourer, was away to Kapurthala on an errand when the girl, along with her elder brother, was watching TV at their home. Later, the brother of the girl went outside for sometime. When he returned, he saw a neighbour, Ashwini (21) who was attempting to outrage her modesty.

Later, the girl’s grandmother also reached the spot.

While the incident took place this afternoon, the police said the man was currently under treatment at a local hospital after he was beaten up by his family.

Nakodar SHO said the medical tests of the girl were being conducted. After arrival of the reports, it would be ascertained whether the girl had been raped or not. — TNS
