HOSHIARPUR: On the third day of the 59th Punjab University Youth and Heritage Festival at DAV College, scintillating performances by teams of giddha and orchestra left the audience mesmerised.

On the third day of the 59th Punjab University Youth and Heritage Festival at DAV College, scintillating performances by teams of giddha and orchestra left the audience mesmerised. In the gidda competition, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur, was declared winner, Bhag Singh Khalsa College for Girls, Kala Tibba, was the runner-up and Government Girls College, Ludhiana, bagged the third spot.

Participants also showcased their skills in folk instrument, folk music, mime and one act play. Kavishari, ‘var’ singing, ‘kali’ singing and quiz contest were also held.

SGPC general secretary Amarjeet Singh Chawla was the chief guest. Kamal Bhasin, business head of JCT Mills, Chohal, Baba Farid Foundation’s Pritam Singh Bhairowal, PU Senator and Principal, Constituent College, Guru Harsahai, MR Sharma, were special guests.

In the previous session, SSP J Ellanchezhian joined as the chief guest.

In photography, Rishikant Singh of Government College of Arts, Sector 10, Chandigarh, stood first, Deepika Gautam of MSMDV College of Woman, Sector 36, Chandigarh, second and Hema of Government College, Tanda, clinched the third spot.

In poster making, Mahima Vinod of MCMDAV College for Women, Chandigarh, and Diksha of Government College, Hoshiarpur, were first and second, respectively. Jaspreet Kaur of Government College for Girls, Ludhiana, along with Paramvir Singh, Government College of Arts, Sector 10, Chandigarh, stood third.

Students came through with flying colours in other contests as well.
