After facing continued drinking water shortage, people of Channi Himmat staged a protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department. They demanded regular and timely water supply.

The protesters were led by BJP councillor from Ward 51 Raj Kumar. Locals also joined him and complained about irregular water supply. They alleged that many times dirty water was being supplied to them.

“We have been demanding laying of pipes from Higher Secondary School, Channi Himmat, to Bhalla Enclave and from the main road to Dairy Mohalla, but the plea has been ignored by the authorities,” Raj Kumar said. The protesters alleged that a new water supply line was laid from school to Sector 2, Channi, a few years ago at the cost of Rs 18 lakh, but it had not been utilised properly. “Due to the failure of the PHE Department to install valves at junctions, the supply of water from the source is not properly channelised. ,” said Naresh Sharma, a resident. — TNS
