Ferdinand, which is set to air on September 23 at 1 pm on Star Movies Select HD, takes us all over Spain, mountain-top city of Ronda, Madrid’s Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas; and to the windmills of La Mancha. It is said the filmmakers themselves travelled to these places to find inspiration for the visuals.

Winning hearts
Coco

This year’s Academy Award-winning animation movie Coco won not just the prestigious awards, but also hearts all over the world. The gorgeous visuals gave us a glimpse of the Mexican town of Santa Cecilia, as well as details of Mexican culture. What made it better was the fact that a bulk of the lyrics were in Spanish.

Scottish flavour
Brave

Based in medieval Scotland, Brave tells the story of a Scottish princess, Merida, who wants to live life on her own terms. From the Highland Games to the landscape, be it the Rocky Mountains she scales or the forests she rides through, anyone who has been to Scotland will recognise the places. What takes the cake though is the beautiful Scottish accent that everyone speaks in. 

Polynesia rocks
Moana

Moana takes you on a trip to Polynesia. It is based in pre-European Pasifika and takes us back in time through Polynesian myths. Though they have not specified a particular region in Polynesia, one can see the research that has gone into providing a more or less accurate depiction of their culture.

Vintage China
Mulan

While other princesses were being saved by their Prince charming, here was a princess who saved the entire nation of China from the invaders. Mulan is undoubtedly one of the most-inspiring princesses ever. Based between 4th-6th centuries, it shows us what life in China must have been like back then.
