Known for his role in TV show, Hamari Bahu Silk, Zaan Khan is the second runner up of MTV Splitsvilla season 8. He talks about his professional and personal journey

Tell us something about your early life.

I am an engineer by profession and was raised in the city of Bhopal. Since my childhood, I wished to be an actor and a model. I was very passionate about fashion and started my professional career as a model during my college days and soon acting happened.

What have you learnt from the journey so far?

The two things that I have learnt from my journey are - to be disciplined/focused on your goals and to not lose faith in your talent irrespective of the temporary setbacks.

Who are your inspirations in the field of acting and why?

I have a few in my list. Kay Kay Menon - he has that depth in his eyes that you can’t ignore. Manoj Bajpayee is such a powerhouse of talent and then Shah Rukh Khan and his charm is just unmatchable. Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh have a great combination of energy and charisma. So I have taken small pointers from everyone!

What are your views on the different mediums?

Right from OTT to your own YouTube channels, as an actor, this is a great time for exploring your talent. So what serves you the best, just go for it! Earlier, we had to go through the look tests and auditions but today one can just start his own channel given one has enough faith on his talent.

How do you ensure work-life balance?

I can only do one thing at a time. When you are doing a lead in a TV show, every single day of your month is blocked. People do juggle between platforms but for me it is one project at a time.

Do you have any other passion besides acting?

I love poetry, and in particular, I love Urdu language. Whenever I get some free time I enjoy reading Urdu poems.

What do you like to do on your off days?

I watch world cinema and documentaries. As an artiste I also get to learn so many things. Also, I am a big fan of football. Apart from playing in the ground, I play Fifa on play station. I just love it!

In 2021, what are the changes you want to see in your career?

Last year, we have suffered a lot. I have made few mistakes in my career and I will not repeat that again. Getting accolades for my performance is my ultimate aim.

How do you define fame and success?

For me, success is something which you get in due course of time. It’s been five years and I have a long way to go. I gradually want to climb the ladder; I don’t need seasonal success.
