Shilpa Dhar, who has acted in Punjabi films like Lucky Di Unlucky Story, Desi Romeos, wants an Oscar

Shilpa Dhar is a multi-tasker. This actor, singer, lyricist, author and a spiritual coach talks about her films Lucky Di Unlucky Story, Desi Romeos, Son of Manjeet Singh, Channa Mereya and more…

How and when did you realise that you had passion for acting?

My love for Punjabi culture led me to acting. It was all Rab ki meher.

How was your first experience in the industry?

I got my first work when I was still studying in college. It became a hit project and that’s when I realised that I was made for it. My first day on set was all “one-take ok”. I just knew this was my calling.

Who is your inspiration?

My parents!

What else are you doing apart from acting?

I am an author. Also, I am into Tarot card readings and Vastu.

Is life better than a happy movie?

Any day! Life itself is beautiful and a gift of God.

Share some of your accomplishments in the field of acting, writing and singing.

I worked in hit Punjabi films and a Hindi film. My last book was a bestseller on Amazon. My track Jungle Jungle as a singer was my own production.

What’s your most challenging role till date?

My double role for a show called Oye Jassi for Disney Channel. In one role, I had to wear artificial teeth. I was taken to a dentist to fix it with laser which was removed every day after pack-up. But it was a learning experience.

Where do you see your career in five years from now?

At the Oscars!

What is your strength as an actor?

My spirituality. I empty myself from within and perform.

How difficult it is to establish yourself in the film industry?

Every industry is difficult. But I feel if you are passionate, nothing can stop you.

What would you want to say to your fans out there?

Go by what is real!

Which role is your favourite and why?

None! I feel I am yet to perform that one favourite role of mine. Yet, I feel the track I produced as a singer is my favourite. It was fun. Right from selecting my looks to the attire, it was my baby.

If not in entertainment industry, what would you be doing in life?

I would be an internationally acclaimed author!

Any exciting new projects?

Lots of them. I am supposed to be surprising you all.

What type of role do you see yourself playing in the future?

I would love to play the role of a physically challenged person.

How do you feel working with stars?

It’s a learning experience for me. Some legends teach you how to remain humble while others teach you how not to be like them.

Your comments on nepotism in the industry?

It does exist. But no one can stop the will of God and a heart and soul filled with passion.

Do you think OTT platforms have changed the game?

Yes, the new era of cinema has begun.
