What is your character in Runaway Lugaai?

My character’s name is Rajnikant Sinha. He is a judge in a district court. The way he passes judgement is unique. In his personal life, he is a bit submissive. His father dominates him and it bothers him a lot. The relationship between his father and him is an interesting aspect of the show. I had a lot of fun while essaying this role.

How do you decideto pick a particular role?

Three things - the script, my role and the director who is making it!

Sanjay Mishra, who plays your father in the show, is known to be one of the best actors inthe industry. How was your experience of working with him?

I have known him since long, but this time I spent almost 35 days with him in Patna. The way he improves in every scene is amazing. In every shot he is different!

Tell us more about your experience of shooting in Patna…

I quite liked the place. I did not expect much, but overall had a great time. The people over there are warm and helpful. I also explored the local delicacies, including litti-chokha and sattu ka sharbat. Our director, Avinash Das, is also from Bihar, so overall we had a great time in Patna.

You have closely worked with filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee as an assistant director. How was the experience?

As an actor, I did my first film, Shanghai, with him. I also did one of my first commercials with him. After working with him, I have become his biggest fan. He is a disciplined director and also someone who does detailed preparations. I really appreciate that quality.

What is your take on the booming webspace in India?

Web space is a boon,as we can shoot like a film and control costs. Not just for the actors, it’s a great platform for all the technicians across the industry. It is giving employment to a lot of people.

As an actor, how patient have you been in this lockdown phase?

Apart from a few actors who are shooting 365 days a year, most of the actors wait for the correct project. Waiting is something that actors are used to!Not meeting people can be depressive, but I am waiting for the situation to improve.

What is one hidden talent you discovered about yourself during the lockdown?

Cooking! Earlier, I used to stay away from the kitchen. But now I am confident that I will not starve,as I can cook.
