Ludhiana, November 21
In the acid attack case of Puneet Nagar, the police have identified the attacker as a self-proclaimed brother of the victim. He had recently sneaked out of the police station when he was called for questioning by the police.
The suspect has been identified as Lucky, a resident of Puneet Nagar. He has absconded. Police teams have been searching for the suspect at his possible hideouts.
Additional DCP Rajvir Singh Boparai said Lucky was a suspect from day one, but their suspicion deepened when he escaped from the police station when called for questioning.
The police have also identified the shop from where the suspect had purchased acid. The police might take legal action against the shopkeeper for flouting the acid ban norms.
Sources said a few days before the acid attack on November 15 night, the suspect had attempted to attack the girl. But the girl’s father opened the door after which the suspect fled the scene. After the attack on November 15, he left behind an unstitched suit outside the victim’s house. Police inquiries found that the suit was purchased by the suspect from an online shopping site. The victim is a seamstress.
Suspect frequently called up girl late night
Sources said the suspect, Lucky, used to call the girl during night hours. Although their phone talks did not last long, the recent call details show that both had interactions of maximum five-seven minutes.
Threat call to her father
The suspect had also made a threat call to the girl’s father a day after the incident. He had warned her father not to marry the girl if he wanted to see her happy. Police officials said had the girl informed the police about the suspect earlier, he would have been arrested by now.
