Pregnant woman with Covid symptoms made to shuttle between hospitals

Meanwhile, a six months pregnant woman (with Covid symptoms) had to go from one hospital to another in a critical condition last midnight. The woman, hailing from Phagwara, first went to the DMCH where she was administered an injection but was refused admission. She later went to Civil Hospital where she was referred to Christian Medical College and Hospital.

Three staff members of the CMCH who examined her have been quarantined.

Dr Bagga said he would ask the DMCH authorities as to why they denied admission to the patient. “I reiterate strict action will be taken against hospitals under the Epidemic Act which refuse admission to patients during this hour of emergency,” he said.

Dr Sandeep Sharma, Medical Superintendent of DMCH, said he was not aware of any such incident. “We are regularly in touch with the Health Department and they know about our facilities,” he said.
